WHAT IS SLOW FOOD? AND WHY SHOULD WE CARE?

Our lives are busy, crazy and hectic. Most of us can barely get dinner on the table or complete our jobs or projects on time. Why, then, should we take the time to get involved? Simply put, it is because every person in the world has the right to good, clean, healthy food. That is what Slow Food is about. It is about educating people about where their food comes from. It is about protecting the farmer and the farm from toxins and unfair wages. It is about connecting the farm to the consumer. It is about creating healthy communities. The busier we are, the more important it is to Slow down and move our society away from industrialized food production, away from quantity into quality and into a world of justice, beauty and pleasure.

Start-up is a wonderful thing

I have been frustrated with our chapter's website for a whole year. It was impossible to update if you aren't a geek. Then voila' the blog in an instant! Now we can get info out to people so much quicker, and our communications can really be kept up-to-date. Once this is more developed, we can drop the website. Maryanne @MPF

Welcome to Slow Food Westchester

Tonight, we had a phone meeting with Maryanne Hedrick, Jan Maltby & Susan Rubin.
Michelle Kim couldn't make it, she was up to her elbows in toffee ( the dentists of the world thank you, Michelle!)

We talked about the Jan 31 Bedford event. Susan is set to attend the next planning meeting of the Bedford Environmental Summit, still waiting for details.

The Chocolate event is on for Feb. We just need a location and a date. Any date but Feb 7th will work. Location can be someone's home if we don't have a public space.

Michelle suggested a regular open monthly b'fast meeting. sounds like a fine idea, we can use this blog to put a shout out to the community.

I will email Maryanne, Michelle and Jan with passwords and info on how to access this blog. It is really easy, I promise!
